Valerie Jirak, a Duke-bound senior at Star Valley High in Wyoming, won the heptathlon with a lifetime-best 4,920 points at the Arcadia Multis at the 56th Arcadia Invitational at Arcadia High in California. Jirak improved on her fifth-place effort of 4,919 points from Nike Outdoor Nationals last season. She ran 14.56 in the 100-meter hurdles, cleared 5-6 (1.68m) in the high jump, achieved a mark of 29-7.25 (9.02m) in the shot put, ran 25.47 seconds in the 200 meters, delivered a leap of 17-6 (5.33m) in the long jump, produced a javelin throw of 86-6 (26.37m) and ran 2:20.16 in the 800 meters.
